Oxley

Today Trey went to visit his Great Grandma Oxley. We do this from time to time but try to make the visits brief because Trey gets stir crazy. But today something very exciting happened. We found this little fella scampering across the side walk. Trey "loved" him immediately and it was decided he should come live with us. Naturally he was named Oxley since he was found on the Oxley homestead.
I have a few wishes right now. First, I hope Oxley will live a long life. Second, I hope he doesn't get loose in the house. And third, I hope he doesn't grow up to be a snapping turtle!

It is your lucky day Heather!!! I happen to be a turtle expert...Oxley is a Red-eared slider, not a snapper. That is the good news..also he will live a VERY long life. That may be the not-so-good news. Turtles do not die of natural causes.. I have 2, one like Oxley and a painted turtle. They started out this size, now are about 6 and 8 inches in diameter. AND they stink. Email me if you have any turtle related questions.
PS-Do you have any maternity clothes you want to loan out???

Marci- I thought of you and your love of turtles when we took this little guy in. What do your turtles eat and how fast did they grow? Glad I know a turtle expert!

they like ham and especially roast beef, little bites. hold it down in water, they have to eat underwater. they have grown around 3/4 inch per year or so...thats a guesstimate. the turtle food will work later, but it is probably too hard and definately too big for him right now. crush it, that might work
