Saturday Mornings

I can remember being a kid and trying to wake up early on a Saturday morning. My sister Erica and I would get up together and tip toe out to the living room. We were careful not to wake up our parents. We'd snuggle up together in the middle of the big brown couch and cover up with a hand made afghan. Our eyes would still be sleepy but it didn't matter. We were glued to the television for Saturday morning cartoons.
I am sure there are many others out there who did the same thing. We would watch The Smurfs, Shirt tails, Bugs Bunny, The Chipmunks and whatever else was popular at the time. Now, this was before cable tv and satellite showed cartoons 24/7. Saturday mornings were a special time for kids. I find it kind of sad that this ritual has gone by the wayside.
This morning I realized that Trey has his own routine. After Trey came and woke me up this morning, we went out to the living room. He wanted to watch PBS kids. I burst his bubble by telling him it was Saturday. He thought for a minute and said he wanted to watch "the fishies". I wasn't sure what he meant and started to flip the channels on our rabbit earred television.
We found the fishy show. Trey sat on the couch wrapped in his Tigger blanket, holding his sippy cup and laughing as he watched the Banjo Minnow (a fishing lure infomercial).
There really aren't any Saturday morning cartoons anymore. But I did recall this infomercial being shown around the same time for the past few Saturdays. Apparently the Banjo Minnow is just as exciting as Tom and Jerry or Sponge Bob. Trey giggled and laughed out loud the whole time I was making breakfast!
